Tip of the Month
MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL
Although the queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs may have
been just a little too concerned with her looks, the way we look
is a huge factor in our self-esteem. Self-esteem is the opinion
we have of ourselves and for women it is often related to our bodies.
We compare ourselves to celebrities and see ourselves coming up
short. We’re too fat, too short, have bad hair, bad clothes,
blah, blah, blah.
Been there, done that.
When we are very young we love our bodies. Actually we don’t
think much about them. We run, jump, and skip and think the world
is wonderful. Then adolescence kicks in and our bodies are doing
all sorts of strange things. Our mother may make a casual remark
that we interpret in a negative way. My mother once said that she
could never find pants that fit me, my legs were so long! Of course
my mother was not saying that there was really anything wrong with
my legs, but that was what I heard. For many years I didn’t
like my long legs and hated to see my ankles sticking out of my
pants! I was too tall!
Forty years later, my legs are still long. Now I see them as one
of my best features. Who knew?
We are real women and we rarely have a perfect body. In fact, who’s
to say what that even is? Surely, all those celebrities don’t
have “real” bodies. They have often been altered in
some way and many of them are waaaay to skinny. Bones are not attractive,
girls! This is the body that we are living in and we need to love
it every day. Just the way it is. Not when we lose ten more pounds.
Now.
We can all look good every day no matter what shape our body is
in. We can all be attractive. We just have to realize it and want
to dress and look great every day, no matter what we are doing.
It is often said that we must change on the inside before anything
changes on the outside. However, when you are confident you look
good on the outside, you are going to feel better as you go about
your day. When you look good, you will act different and when you
act different, you will feel different. When you know you look classy
and sassy, your self-esteem will be high!
What is your mirror telling you?
